In 2013, we won the pitch to design The Hague’s municipal four-year Arts & Culture Policy Plan. Some restraint in the design was appropriate due to the extensive budget cuts in the plan; however, collaboration and innovation remained the primary themes.
The rosettes in the design symbolize The Hague’s diverse arts and culture offerings; something new and autonomous is created from existing art forms. To establish the connection to The Hague, we also made rosettes inspired by well-known cultural institutions in the city.

We converted several rosettes into graphic line drawings, and created a font using these drawings to replace the conventional numerical digits. Typed numbers (or page numbers!) subsequently become rosettes, allowing every page to feature its own unique set of ornaments.

Later, we also designed the Delta plan Cultural Education as a sub-publication of “Haagse Nieuwe”. The plan outlined the municipality’s vision for the future of cultural education.
